Let's Calculate Flight!

This Let's Calculate Flight! lesson plan also includes:

How long was that flight? Scholars calculate elapsed time as they participate in this kinesthetic activity. First, equip each learner with a stopwatch and show the linked clip of a Boeing 747. They track the elapsed time between takeoff and landing. Next, aviators create their own planes and calcuate flight times with a partner. As a class, review elapsed time concepts and discuss results. The time tracker worksheet isn't linked here; however it would be easy to create and could serve as the basis for data collection and a class graph. Introduce time subtraction as another way to calculate elapsed time as scholars try to fly their planes into the trash while you record start and stop times. There is also a worksheet that could easily be used as an exit slip.
