Let's Make a Trade

First graders use ten sticks and ones blocks to count and group blocks in ones and tens. They are explained that they are going to play a trading game. Students are told that in our number system, no column or "place" can hold more than nine pieces. Students are explained that as soon as 10 pieces are placed in a column, he or she has to "trade" for a peice in the next column to the left.

I train teachers pre-K-12 to use the arts to teach any subject (arts integration). Lesson Planet has given me some great ideas to share as we all attempt to make the arts an important part of every child's education.
