Moving through a Machine

Explore organization and sentence fluency in this Six-Traits lesson. After reading chapter three of Robert McCloskey's Homer Price, young writers work together to construct a paragraph inspired by the donut-making machine that is detailed in the book. Using the class paragraph as a model, and incorporating transition words, individuals or pairs create a description of an imaginary machine. You could use the procedures of this lesson with any piece of literature.

Lesson Planet has cut down on my planning time for science and social studies. It has given me creative ideas for units and materials for math centers and materias to share at grade level planning.
