Here is a well-written lesson that will help beginning scientists understand the difference between observation and inference. Learners examine a photo of an astonaut on the moon and watch you perform a demonstration. For both, they record observations and inferences. Though it was written for ninth graders, it would be beneficial to address these concepts much earlier.
