Young scholars visualize the experience described in Chapter 1 of Woodsong by Gary Paulsen as the teacher reads aloud. In this writing lesson, students sketch images that come to mind and label their sketch with descriptive words. Upon completion of the reading, young scholars choose a mood based on the emotion the text evoked. Individual poems are then written based on the sketch, labels, and mood each student visually represented in his or her drawing.
