Persuasive Essay: Evaluating Reasons to Support a Conclusion

Enhance middle schoolers persuasive writing skills by reading the sentences and determining whether the statements are facts or opinions. Then, with the second exercise, have learners provide facts to support the ideas presented about cleaning up a local river. If you live near a river that could use a clean-up, make this lesson more relevant by showing pictures of your river and discussing its effect on your community.
