Illustrators have a big job! Youngsters actively listen to a story and analyze the images as they relate to the text. With modelling and guidance, they listen for words that match with the picture they are seeing. Using think-pair-share, encourage discussion and collaboration. Partners apply this skill to their own personal reading book, sharing with a classmate. Finally, extend the activity by giving them a chance to illustrate the story they read. Give learners a page with text and no picture. Read the text and have learners create an appropriate illustration. Use any book for this!
