Picturing America at the Turn of the Twentieth Century

Literature and social studies are definitely linked, and this lesson pulls them together to construct a great learning activity. The class will read several selections written at the turn of the 20th Century. They analyze ads from the time and then match historical documents to period literature. The lesson culminates in a scrapbook project which has them responding to ads from both yesteryear and the present.
