Third and fourth graders examine the many writing crafts that poets use to convey their message, such as rhythm, imagery, and repetition. By dissecting a poem into stanzas and analyzing the lines in each stanza, young poets are able to infer the meaning and visualize the picture being painted.

- Count the beats (syllables) in each line of a poem and notice if there is a pattern
- Extend each lesson by having your students sketch their visualization of the poems they read
