This Positive Thinking unit also includes:

Help adolescent learners deal with their influx of emotions and messages about self image with a set of worksheets that focus on positive thinking. Individuals, pairs, or groups work on exercises that help them look past negative self esteem with newspapers, writing prompts, discussion questions, and additional exercises.

Instructional Ideas

  • Use in a teen issues class, or when discussing teenage self esteem in a health unit
  • Have a peer counseling class administer the worksheets and activities to classmates who come into counseling sessions to talk
  • Host a seminar about self esteem and self image for middle or high schoolers, and use the activities in order to start the discussion
  • Check out the books in the bibliography for additional materials and inspiration

  • Lessons were published in 1996, so you may need to infuse it with more relevant issues (e.g. social media, images in advertising, etc.)
