Problem Task 5.NBT.5: Multi-Digit Multiplication

In a formative task, 5th graders are asked to arrange a three-digit and a two-digit number to create the largest product possible. Young learners will find this challenging activity more accessible if they use mental math, area models, or other critical thinking strategies in creating their numbers. Note: A lesson plan is not included. This is intended as an assessment.
