Sampling for Macroinvertebrates and Sorting Macroinvertebrates to Determine Water Quality

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

Students participate in two lessons in which they examine fresh water and discuss how macroinvertebrates can be used to help determine water quality. Students visit a fresh water source and collect samples of macroinvertebrates to analyze and then use a dichotomous key to sort the bugs and determine which are indicators of good water quality.
