Searching for Letters, Words, and Sentences

First graders are able to identify letters, words and sentences. They are asked to give examples of letters. Students discuss how most letters are not words by themselves, with the exception of I and A. They discuss how words are made up of letters. Students are divided into groups of four to play a card game with the index cards. Each student is given a piece of paper with the labels "Letters," "Words," "Sentences."

Mark Z.
Lesson Planet has allowed me to better serve my students by exposing me to a wide variety of techniques to teach various algebraic concepts. In a short time I am able to benefit from others' wide range of experiences in the classroom while having the latitude to alter or change what does not fit my teaching style or the learning styles of my students.
