Senate Hearings on Homestead Act

Students research the Homestead Act.  In this American history lesson, students explore the background and process of settlement in the Great Plains in the 1800's.  After they develop a greater understanding of the Homestead Act, they prepare and present a mock Senate hearing which includes arguments for and against the Act.

It has provided me with the access to more material other than text books so I can provide my students a broader and richer learning experience.
