"Sense" Scientist!

A lesson provides super scientists with a learning experience to better understand the body's five senses. A discussion familiarizes pupils with the sense of sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. A pairing activity challenges participants to match body parts to the senses. Small groups role a five-senses die then complete a graphic organizer, followed by a leveled worksheet. An oral review includes checks for understanding.

Instructional Ideas

  • Print, laminate, and keep body part cutouts in manila envelopes or baggies for easy access and future use
  • Conduct the group portion of the lesson as a center rotation, assign other senses-related activities for the remaining centers 
  • Invite class members to bring in items for the lesson that peers can examine and identify corresponding senses

  • Dice should be pre-assembled before the lesson 
  • A new video is required for the introduction
