States of Matter: Playdough Holiday Ornament Art Lesson

Though there are few procedural details here, you can use this activity to reinforce learning about states of matter in primary grade science, incorporate tactile approaches to engage more learners, develop fine motor skills, and have a holiday gift to send home as well. It would also serve nicely as an introduction to the scientific method, as the children begin by making observations and develop hypotheses about why the flour/salt mixture in the bag changes forms when you add water! The ornaments could be painted with eye droppers or brushes after they dry.
