Taoist Thought in Chinese Utopian Poetry

This exercise will begin with a class discussion on Taoist thought. Following, each eleventh grader will read an introduction to Chinese poetry in their textbooks. Provoking a conversation, the instructor will list the learner's reactions to chinese thought & poetry. The teacher will then read aloud 3 short poems by T’ao Ch’ien and discuss how the poetry relates to the Taoist's concept of utopia. Lastly, learners will write a composition on what utopia means to them.
