The Economics of Recycling

Young scholars examine the situation in Japan in which they are required to pay to recycle large appliances. They compare and contrast the incentives available to citizens of Japan and the United States who recycle. They predict how consumers might react when they have to pay a fee. In groups, they create strategies for reducing the amount of waste in landfills.
