The First Lady: The "Heart of the Nation"

Students view a list of dualisms on the board and discuss the notion that the world can be understood through the opposites that go together such as these. They listen as the teacher explains that this is one argument used to keep women from voting, and is still being used against the possibility of a woman becoming President. Students research the life of Betty Ford and list qualities and activities that might be labeled "head" and those that might be labeled "heart."
