The Painted Cube - ID: 8249

Students investigate volume and surface area.  For this Algebra I/Geometry lesson, students explore patterns and algebraic thinking as they visualize dismantling a large cube to determine the number of small cubes having painted faces.  Students extend the pattern they observe for a 2 X 2, a 3 X 3, and a 4 X 4 cube as they explore the scatter plot of their data.

Jacqueline M.
As headteacher in an elementary school and one who has a fair amount of dealing with high school students, Lesson Planet has been a dependable resource. The variety of material available suits a whole range subjects and levels.
