This The Poetry of Emily Dickinson: Analyzing a Poem’s Context lesson plan also includes:
Show your learners that a poem's context is important when trying to understand its meaning. First, they discuss "Now I knew I lost her--" and the literal references within the poem, as well as the symbolic references. They then read "Wild nights -- Wild nights!" and "You left me -- Sire -- two Legacies" and write about the subjects and speakers of each poem. Finally, they read an essay about Dickinson's life, as well as three additional poems for the next activity.

- A great lesson on its own, or within the context of the unit
- Poems are not included in the resource, but can be found on a link on the unit's main page
