This The Windy Pirate activity & project also includes:

A new class of pirates wants to sail on your ship, but they lack the knowledge to properly travel the world. How will you teach them? Groups of learners teach their peers, the new pirates, everything from locations of global wind patterns to the effects of wind patterns on the environment. Presentations must include classwork, an assessment, and homework — giving your class a better appreciation for your work each day!

Concepts

Instructional Ideas

  • Groups could videotape themselves teaching the lesson, which might eliminate learners being nervous and making mistakes
  • Give each group a time limit
  • Consider modeling how you write a lesson plan, as pupils are prompted to write and teach a lesson to their peers
Classroom Considerations

  • Resource is a culminating activity after a unit on wind, ocean currents, and weather, as it assumes students can teach these concepts to others
Pros

  • Includes a rubric for the activity
  • Differentiation for the activity includes grouping students according to pre-assessment scores
  • Contains a graphic organizer for groups to compile their thoughts
Cons

  • Does not contain a pre-assessment
