By hanging a meter stick from a ring stand, a physics class can explore torque. Detailed procedures are listed for having learners work backwards with two and three weights and then forward with two and three weights. In each situation, they determine the locations for the weights along the meter stick and record them on a prepared lab data sheet. Analysis questions at the end of the lab help participants process the data collected. Consider including this activity when introducing circular motion.
