Touchdown Reader

Third graders listen as the teacher discusses reasons for reading fluently (quickly and accurately. They review the methods good readers use when they become stuck on a word. Students listen as the teacher reads both non fluently and fluently. They discuss the difference. Students practice reading "Kick the Football, Charlie Brown." They read the story three times with a partner, recording the number of words read in one minute after each reading.
