Young readers use a word bank of seven terms from Elizabeth Friedrich's book Leah's Pony. They match six of them with definitions. In another brief exercise, they cross out the word in each of four groups of three that does not belong with the others (practice with antonyms). Lastly, they write a letter to a friend about an imaginary horseback riding adventure they take with their families. To support learners who have never ridden horses, brainstorm ideas together.
