Wanted: A Few Good Friends

This Wanted: A Few Good Friends lesson plan also includes:

As you introduce your new first graders to their classroom, consider this activity as a way to discuss rules and expectations. Although the introduction seems to focus more on qualities of a good friend, the instructional activity itself is only part of that unit. Learners come up with rules, adding them to an anchor chart. They then sort the rules into categories, discussing how rules are often different at home and at school. Youngsters go home and come up with two more rules to bring in the next day, when the class can create a classroom rules chart. Although the reading isn't included, you don't need it for this instructional activity.
