Challenge pupils with a variety of We Can Work It Out themed activities. In a unit created to extend learning opportunities, scholars create a problem solving chart, a sequence of events chart, design a crop poster, make a plan to complete a goal, read a circle story, write a fantasy story, a poem about toads, and an informative piece about a rock collection.

Instructional Ideas

  • If scholars are nervous about sharing their school problem, give them a discrete drop off location
  • Create a cafe setting in your classroom for a poetry or story reading 
  • Continue the goal setting process; revisit each class members' plan to observe progress, then make a new plan when the first one is complete 
Classroom Considerations

  • Although the unit was designed as part of the Houghton Mifflin English language arts curriculum, it can be used on its own or alongside another curriculum
  • Some curriculum materials are referenced but not included; affected activities can still be implemented with modifications
