Writing Style in Washington's Journal

A discussion of syntax and diction change is the prompted by of a reading of George Washington’s “Diary of the First Presidential Visit to the Palmetto State.”  As pairs read, they record examples of archaic spellings, words, and sentence structures found in the entry. The subsequent discussion considers the agents of language change like computers and mass media.  A detailed script is included.
