Social & Emotional Learning in High School: Social Awareness

The Collaborative for Academic, social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) identifies social awareness as one of the five core competencies of social and emotional learning. Social awareness includes a number of different soft skills including but not limited to the following:

  • Perspective-taking
  • Empathy
  • Appreciating Diversity
  • Respect for others

A supportive, inclusive classroom community that encourages participation and discussion, that appreciates diversity and fosters respect for others enables high school student to enhance the social awareness skills required of 21st century learners.
