some great ideas here that can be used with other novels
Hi Celina!
Check out this excerpt from the National Geographic Society's website regarding the number of continents......"By convention there are seven continents: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and Antarctica. However, many geographers list only six continents, combining Europe and Asia into Eurasia. In parts of the world, students learn that there are just five continents: Eurasia, Australia, Africa, Antarctica, and the Americas."
I suppose I fit into the "Many Geographers" category. If you look at the globe, there is no doubt that Europe and Asia are part of the same land mass. I've never understood why in the world (no pun intended), Europe and Asia have been separated into two continents when teaching world geography here in the U.S.
I wonder, is the packet available online anywhere?
Excellent ideas that speak not only to mathematical-thinking minds, but to the socially and economically aware. These are the kind of lessons that we need more of -- classroom ideas that make math relevant and challenging! Thanks!
