New! Multiplication: Bugs Can Multiply, So Can I!
2nd - 4th
Develop multiplication skills with your class. Youngsters will visualize multiplication as repeated addition. Then they will create a multiplication bug book and discover arrays as a strategy for multiplication problem solving. Modifications are given as well as all of the resources that you will need. There are 37 pages in this well-designed packet. There is something for everyone to use!
Addition Word Problems
These word problems are a medley of addition practice; scholars add prices, chew toys, pages read, miles, and more. For each, there is a box for learners to show their work. Remind your class to read the question carefully- some of the information may not be necessary! There are six problems on each of the two worksheets, and all answers are provided. Do one of these with your scholars as a model so they are aware of how to show their work.
Multiplication Strategies - A Day at the Zoo
This is an amazing 33-page resource for teaching multiplication! Your mathematicians will discover the connection between multiplication and repeated addition. They also will work collaboratively with arrays while studying zoo animals. It is recommended that you allow three class periods to complete all of the activities. Various strategies and manipulatives are suggested to make this a in-depth instructional piece.
Challenge 4th graders to move beyond and apply their initial understanding of multiplying one- and two-digit numbers to word problems that have three- and four-digit numbers. The worksheet covers essential questions, task description, task directions, formative assessment questions, and possible student solutions, all of which make this resource a practical application of the Common Core standards. It is easy to understand and ready to use in the classroom.
Problem Solving Word Problems 2
Deciphering word problems can be difficult for many people. In this video, Sal takes the mystery out of several word problems and shows how to dissect them for better understanding (and problem solving). A must-see for those who are preparing for an algebra test!
Real-life Word Problems, Part 5
Bring these four word problems to your second grade class to reinforce addition, subtraction, and money math. The problems provide space to write out the proper equations, as well as separate areas to fill in the answers. Use these problems as a quiz or group activity to assess problem-solving skills!
Seeing Words in a New Way
What's the best resource to use when looking up words? Use Visual Thesaurus to see a word's meaning. The class accesses the interactive website and then compares and contrasts the difference between using a traditional dictionary and the Visual Thesaurus. They compare and contrast the process for using each resource and create an informational word poster.
Addition Word Problems and Place Value Problems
In this math worksheet, students complete addition word problems with short answers and multiple choice place value problems. Students complete 42 problems total.
Addition Word Problems 1, Version 1
In this addition worksheet, students solve word problems containing one and two digit numbers. Students complete 5 addition word problems.
Practicing Multiplication Tables
Multiplication will be a breeze! Third graders work on both straightforward multiplication problems and word problems involving money and measurement. All problems involve multiplying numbers 0 - 10. A great homework assignment or warm-up activity!
Multiplication as Repeated Addition
For beginners, present multiplication as repeated addition to give them a familiar context. They examine grouped sets of objects and add up the groups to get a total. Then, learners translate the addition sets to a basic multiplication concept (e.g. 4 twos = ___ or ____ fours = ____). These eight problems are scaffolded nicely to get scholars doing more on their own as they go. The steps are outlined in an example problem. Once they have finished, introduce the multiplication symbol as you review.
