12 Holiday Gifts Any Teacher Would Love

Need some ideas for what to get your teacher this year? Look no further!

By Mollie Moore

christmas present

During this time of year, we teachers appreciate that our students thought of us. Yet our cupboards are bursting with the coffee cups we have received each year, and there just isn't enough room on our trees for another ornament. Stumped as to what to get teachers to recognize and appreciate them this time of year? Take if from a teacher, here are some can't-go-wrong holiday gift ideas.

Sippin' with Santa (Ideas for the Coffee-Loving Teacher)

  1. Chocolate-covered espresso beans: The most common appliance besides a microwave in a teacher’s lounge is a coffee pot. Some days, caffeine is just plain necessary for a teacher. This snack provides the chocolate we sometimes crave and the extra caffeine we sometimes need.
  2. Leak-proof travel mug: We have plenty of cute ceramic coffee mugs. However, if you've noticed that the teacher in question doesn't have a travel mug. He/she will appreciate a travel mug that does not leak and can keep their energy drip warm.
  3. Coffee shop gift card: On the days when a teacher is running behind, doesn’t want more dishes, or just wants a little treat, a drink from his favorite coffee shop can be the perfect boost. A gift card allows teachers the treat of buying a favorite drink without having to consult their budget or bank account.

Classy Classroom Gifts

The classroom becomes a second home to many teachers. Why not give them something to help him/her enjoy being there even more?

  1. Fun sticky notes and stationary: Whether they like the Pittsburgh Steelers or zebra print, there is a sticky note that fits your teacher's unique personality. A little creative expression will lift their spirits for weeks/months to come.
  2. New or used books: Books for the class library are an awesome gift to receive, as teachers are constantly looking to supplement the books available in class.
  3. Candle warmers: Some school buildings are old; some are located in bad locations. Smell can have a large influence on the atmosphere of a room. Consider a candle warmer to help spice up a room. Candles are prohibited in most schools, so candle warmers are a nice alternative. Talk to other teachers to determine what scent your particular teacher would like.

Personalized Presents

Make that teacher feel extra special by jazzing up a gift:

  1. Thermal lunch bag/tote bag: Very few teachers buy lunch at school, and even fewer have time to go out to buy lunch. We've all been known to forget our lunch in the car. By the time we can get to it, hours later, it's not very appetizing. A thermal lunch bag can be a practical gift that nearly every teacher could use to prevent that from happening. Not sure where to find them in December? Check out companies like Thirty-one, which has a variety of prints and can be personalized. Teachers are also forever toting things between home, car, and school. Personalized tote bags will be appreciated.
  2. E-gift card for www.erincondren.com: For many teachers, this website is filled with many items that make a teacher feel giddy. Add to that, the fact that they can usually be personalized—and this card is a winner!

Fail-Safe Finds: Gift Cards

Here are a few other places to consider purchasing a gift card:

  1. Shoe store: Teachers are constantly on their feet. Quality shoes can be expensive, but they work miracles on a teacher's back and feet. Having a gift card can help take the edge off of expensive shoes, or can be used for insoles or comfortable socks.
  2. Google Play Store/iTunes: As smart phones become more popular, teachers are finding more ways to capitalize on their use. However, not all apps are free. Allow your teacher access to more possibilities through a gift card to the Google Play Store or iTunes.
  3. Target: Do I need to say more? Target has something for everyone. It is one of the safest gifts you can give.
  4. Restaurants: If you know the teacher’s favorite restaurant, here is an easy gift for you to give. Not sure what restaurants he likes? Check out your local grocery store or pharmacy to see if they carry a gift card that can be used for multiple restaurants.

Now, it’s your turn fellow teachers. What did I miss? Share with us some of the best gifts that you have received.
