# Geometry Unit 9: Area of Polygons

Six lessons make up the Geometry Unit 9: Area of Polygons unit module. Pupils review the formulas for finding the area of parallelograms and triangles. They apply previous learning of trigonometric ratios and the Pythagorean Theorem to find missing distances needed to find areas of figures. Next, learners find the areas of trapezoids, kites, and rhombi by using the area formulas. They find any missing information needed to use within the formula and continue to use prior knowledge and practice calculating the areas of several figures on the worksheets. By dividing a regular polygon into triangles, scholars see how the area formula works. They watch several examples of finding the area of various regular polygons before practicing finding the area of polygons. Pupils review the finding areas and the circumference of circles and use them to solve problems. They learn about central angles, their relationships to measures of arcs, and find out how to calculate arc lengths. Young mathematicians learn about a circle sector as a slice of the circle and determine how to find its area. They also learn how to find out how to calculate the segment of a circle based on the sector's area. For the last lesson in the unit module, learners first review finding the area of polygons using the formulas from parallelograms to regular polygons. They then brush up on finding the area and circumference of circles and reviewing how to find the area of sectors and segments and arc lengths. Each flipped classroom lesson includes a video, practice worksheets, answer key designed for instructors, and a corrective worksheet for those who need additional practice.
