Students examine soil erosion and what causes it.  In this soil lesson students complete several experiments on soil erosion and the weathering process. 

Fifth graders compare and contrast the rate of soil erosion along water and along a vegetation area. They observe the differences and record their information and write a hypothesis of what they think happen if the erosion continues.

Students set up a stream table, observe erosion, and record data on where various sizes of sediments settle. They draw conclusions as to what kind of sedimentary rock form in what locations.

Students examine the differences between weathering, erosion, and deposition as it pertains to mountains.

Students explore the differences between specific soil characteristics. They participate in an experiment in which they discover soil texture. They write their observations in a journal.

Eighth graders study tropical and temperate rainforests.  In this rainforest lesson students complete a lab activity using the Internet.
