Students examine heroes of Canada. They watch short videos about Lionel Conacher, Harry Jerome, and Wayne Gretzky, research a Canadian athlete, write an essay, and create an an athlete triptych.

Students select an athlete from the Canadian Olympians website. They select pictures and list the qualities demonstrated by their chosen athlete which are required for the sport. They create posters showing their chosen athlete in action.

Fifth graders identify characteristics of heroes.  In this role model and heroes lesson plan, 5th graders research a Canadian hero and design a bulletin board to display their presentation.

Learners increase consciousness of the history of Canadian success in figure skating and appreciate the pioneers of figure skating in Canada; to examine their accomplishments in their historical context.
