Students take samples of local trees and identify the tree using a field guide. They keep data for the tree on the Tree ID sheet. They create leaf, seed, bark, and flower prints and paint them.

Students present information on a Native American role model in the community to the class. They gain an understanding of what a role model is. They discuss role models and choose one to interview for their presentation to the class.

Fifth graders create a class collage mural illustrating endangered lands and threatened species. They also write letters protesting the exploitation of endangered habitats and the destruction of flora and fauna.

Learners examine artwork and sculpture by Keith Haring. They decorate a chair with their own symbols and designs.

Students select a person whom they admired and get a picture of that person. Then they go through a lesson on creating and using grids. They learned how to properly use a grid to increase the scale when they create a drawing.

Students identify similarties and differences between different countries and what type of bread they eat. They examine the different cultures of countries by emailing people in other countries. They also locate the country on the map.
