Learners explore the Johnny Appleseed story. In this service learning lesson, students invite others to a Johnny Appleseed inspired performance to share an applesauce snack.

First graders read stories and make observations about the life cycle of an apple tree. They write and illustrate expository text about apple trees and make applesauce.

Learners participate in a variety of activities to learn about apples. Students graph apples, learn about apple uses, taste apples, and observe what happens when apples are dipped in lemon juice.
