Fourth graders conduct a literature study in order to investigate the concept of change and how it occurs in the environment. The teacher uses the method of concept development for investigation.

Students discuss what they know about Saturn. They create drawings to show what the planet looks like and identifies its characteristics. They write a paragraph about the planet as well.

Learners recognize the short vowel a in written and spoken language. Through matching and listening activities, they discriminate the vowel sound /a/ from other phonemes. Students identify the phoneme and letter in pseudo words they decode.

A lesson plan in which students complete a KWL chart before during and after reading a text. Materials are included.

During these three days of lessons, 2nd graders will learn about weather from the nonfiction text by asking questions, and focusing on the text features of the book.

Questions about weather clear up when young scholars use what they learned from their books to create a presentation to share with the rest of the class.
