Students read The Wind Blew by Pat Hutchins. They complete a variety of cross-curricular activities surrounding the study of wind and weather. Included are reading, art, math, science, writing, social studies, and library connections.

Third graders examine the life of a groundhog and their role in predicting weather. They write a postcard or a letter to Punxsutawney Phil on the Internet.

Learners maintain a field journal as they follow penguin parents raising their chicks during the breeding season. They formulate testable questions. Students reflect on animal behavior in the field related to survival and chick rearing.
