Instructional Ideas

  • For larger classes add references to jazz, automobiles, and East versus West to the list of topics to be investigated
  • After the presentations, ask individuals to select one of the topics and craft an essay that analyzes in greater depth how Fitzgerald uses the symbol to develop a theme in the novel

Classroom Considerations

  • Consider providing groups with the topics prior to reading so that they can mark references as they read

Pros

  • The plan includes step-by-step directions

Cons

  • No rubric is included for the project
