Here's a colorful activity that can be modified for any age group. Kids create printing blocks and craft t-shirts and/or canvas sacks using the blocks and fabric paint. 

Use this owl pattern for a paper craft or with fabric. Each part of the template is labeled clearly, and the big parts make this easy for young elementary schoolers to complete. Cutting, however, will be difficult for kids under 2nd grade.

Creating story quilts is a great way to combine art, social studies and literature. Kids select a story, a published one or one of their own, to illustrate, paint on a canvas square, embellish, and mount on a felt backing.

Students find differences in handprints in a cooperative effort to make a rainbow.  In a rainbow painting lesson, students use their hands to create the different levels of the rainbow. Students may choose their colors.

Students create a barbie holder. In this craft lesson, students put a toilet paper tube into a piece of cardboard and decorate it. They put Barbie's legs into the tube and let the skirt lie over the tube. 

Students create a fabric poncho to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. They sample food and drink from Mexico and follow instructions to make the ponhco. They also discover the history of the holiday.

Students explore painting.  In this Thanksgiving art lesson, students trace their hands on 4 cloth napkins sent from home and use fabric paint to decorate them as hand print turkeys.

Students make their own memorable handprint. They paint their hands on white paper and write their name above their handprint. They write a poem about their handprint as well.
