Instructional Ideas

  • Use this is a homework assignment or starter
  • After they identify each adjective, invite pupils to come up with original sentences using the antonyms for each adjective rather than rewriting the sentences; have them circle their antonym for easy grading

Classroom Considerations

  • In order for the sample sentence (and answer key) to make sense, make sure your pupils know that they are putting in the antonym for the adjective, but that the sentence should express the same idea; alternatively, you could create a different answer key
  • Students should have some prior knowledge of what an antonym is before trying out this exercise

Pros

  • Includes an answer key
  • Provides some instruction on what an adjective is as well as a word bank of antonyms for learners to choose from as they work

Cons

  • None
