Alex: Digging in for Dirt Day!

Curated by ACT

This instructional activity is managed through stations that students will rotate around every 20- 30 minutes. Each second grade teacher conducts one station. Parent volunteers can also be used to manage stations. Students will use an auger to gather soil, produce a soil painting, make a dirt cup to represent layers of soil, do a Shake It Up! activity to examine how soil settles, and examine local soil. This lesson plan was created as a result of the Girls Engaged in Math and Science University, GEMS-U Project.
