Engage young readers in learning to use context clues with this collaborative vocabulary activity. Working in pairs, children take turns drawing from a deck of cards, with each card asking a question about a context involving a specific vocabulary word. After explaining their answers to the question, each student then lists four different examples relating to the term. Be sure to supply them with reference materials in case they can't figure out the definition on their own. Use the vocabulary words and question cards provided with the resource, or create your own to support the specific needs of your students.
- A list of step-by-step directions are included with the activity
- Activity can be adapted to address Common Core standards in any elementary grade level
- Supplemental instruction may be required to support learners with using context clues
