Average and Instantaneous Rates of Change

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet
This Average and Instantaneous Rates of Change interactive also includes:
  • Finding Instantaneous Rates of Change Using Definition of Derivative
  • Slopes of Tangents and Instantaneous Rate of Change
  • Student Reference
  • Join to access all included materials

How can you determine the rate of change on a curve? Pupils use the interactive to discover what happens with the average rate of change as the point move closer to the other. Using the definition of the derivative, learners find that it evaluates as the slope of the tangent line at a given point, providing the instantaneous rate of change.
