Bringing History Home: Segregation History

Curated by ACT

This 3rd grade unit introduces children to the history of segregation, from the end of the Civil War in 1865 through the 1940s. Its content bridges the period between slavery and the peak of the Civil Rights movement in the 1950s and '60s. Teacher preparation for this sensitive topic is recommended. Pre-unit activities introduce students to pre-slavery African culture, slavery and the Underground Railroad.
