By the Great Horn Spoon!

Curated and Reviewed by Lesson Planet

By The Great Horn Spoon is a fantastic novel for introducing learners to life during the California Gold Rush. First, kids research and analyze American folk songs, then they connect to the text as they listen to symphonic pieces written by Antonín Dvořák. They draw parallels between the folk songs and Dvořák's music. Finally, they write a letter to Dvořák, explaining why he should tour the United States.
