Canada Day Fireworks

Students identify that the origins of Canada Day come from Dominion Day, which celebrated the British House of Commons decision allowing the Canadian provinces to unite and form a confederation. Then they identify the varied ways that Canadians celebrate Canada Day. Students also research fireworks displays held in the northern regions of Canada where there is almost 24 hours of daylight on July 1 and compare them to regular fireworks shown in the dark.

Lesson Planet has transformed they way I teach. When I finally admitted that it was ok to utilize the knowledge of other teachers and began adopting these lesson plans the time I saved and excitement I felt energized my classroom.
