Through thoughtful discussion and a read-aloud, scholars challenge gender role stereotypes. Pupils examine pictures and collaborate with their small groups to debunk stereotypes. They explain what gender role stereotypes they know of and brainstorm how to turn those stereotypes around. Learners listen to one or two stories, Ballerino Nate by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley and Drum, Chavi, Drum! by Mayra Dole, and review the story's tale. Extension activities reinforce concepts through hands-on and writing practice.
