The United States leads the world in the percentage of obese adults and children. Why? What can be done about the problem? High school psychology classes adopt a problem-focused approach to investigating childhood obesity and then offering science-based proposals for solutions.
- Use the lesson as a model of the problem-focused approach and have groups apply the steps to a problem they identify
- Unit establishes that there is a problem, explores the problem, looks for possible causes, decides what principles of psychological science are related to the problem, and then proposes solutions
- A rubric is provided for the analytic essay and for classroom presentation
- A paid yearly American Psychological Association membership is required to access detailed lesson plans
